OUR PREBLE NOW CLOSED TO VISITORS
Our shipmate CDR Coltellaro reports that Preble is now closed to visitors due to hazardous waste still aboard. She remains in Philadelphia, but will be towed to the breakers yard at at any time now.
THERE WILL BE A NEW PREBLE
Admiral Jeremiah reports to us that, after a private breakfast meeting with Secretary of the Navy Dalton, the Secretary agreed that the forthcoming Arliegh Burke class Guided Missile Destroyer DDG-88 should be named PREBLE.
This decision was confirmed by SECNAV press release of October 8, 1998.
We will be keeping an eye on this and report details to you as they develop. Our objective will be to hold a Preble reunion in the commissioning city to mesh with the commissioning ceremony and to garner as many seats as are available for our members.
FORMER COMMANDING OFFICERS
Preble Reunion Association membership includes 15 of the 18 former Commanding Officers of DLG-15/DDG-46. It would be wonderful if we could locate the 3 missing former COs before DDG-88 is commissioned. The missing are:
A. R. Cameron | March 1963 - July 1964 |
Edwin E. Killinger | November 1976 - July 1978 |
Fred W. Bailey | July 1978 - June 1980 |
If any member can be of assistance in locating these former COs, please contact Bill Calhoun.
